A New Chapter is Unfolding at Risby Cove
The master bedroom of the Maugean Suites
Renovations are nearing completion as Risby Cove reimagines luxury accommodation on Tasmania’s West Coast.
Risby Cove is undergoing an exciting transformation aimed at elevating luxury, comfort, and connection to its unique waterfront setting on Tasmania’s West Coast.
For more than 20 years, Risby Cove has been Strahan’s only true waterfront accommodation and restaurant. Under new owners Allure Tasmania, the property is being thoughtfully reimagined — from the suites to the restaurant — to create a space that balances timeless charm with a fresh, refined experience.
The redesign honours the rugged West Coast spirit with its preserved corrugated iron exteriors, while interiors reveal a different story—warmth and refinement brought to life through Tasmanian timbers, bespoke lighting, and artwork by celebrated Tasmanian artists such as Raymond Arnold. A natural palette of soft greens, brushed brass, and stone reflects the surrounding landscape, creating a calm, inviting atmosphere throughout.

Every room is evolving into spacious, luxurious suites featuring king-sized beds, Tasmanian timbers, bioethanol fireplaces, and private decks or courtyards just steps from the water or nestled against the rainforest. Select suites include wellness features like cedar hot tubs overlooking the harbour or adjacent rainforest or private infrared saunas framed by forest views, inviting guests to reconnect with nature and unwind completely.
Sustainability remains central to the vision. Original single-glazed windows are being replaced with floor-to-ceiling double glazing for energy efficiency and enhanced views, while over 1,000 native plants ranging from ferns and shrubs to trees will be introduced to restore the landscape and provide privacy.

The restaurant is also receiving a new look, including an upgraded kitchen, refreshed interiors, and a new covered outdoor dining area that offers a seamless connection to the harbour while protecting guests from the elements. Improved guest amenities add comfort, while the historic Gallery building is being reborn as The Mill—a welcoming event space and bar designed by Tasmanian craftsman Simon Ancher, destined to host intimate gatherings and celebrations showcasing local produce and stories.
Throughout the property, Tasmanian art and culture remain integral, with curated works enlivening every suite and communal space. A unique addition, the Storyteller’s Suite, reimagined from the former theatrette, offers a cozy cinematic retreat where guests can immerse themselves in the history and spirit of the West Coast.

While the full transformation is still underway, some newly completed suites are now available at special introductory rates this winter, ahead of the property’s formal reopening later this year.
Risby Cove’s renewal marks more than just a renovation—it is the beginning of a new era, where luxury, wellness, and nature converge in dharmony on Tasmania’s wild West Coast.
