Every suite at Risby Cove is a few steps from the water - harbour on one side, rainforest on the other, and world heritage wilderness beyond both. Cove Pavilions
Located at the water’s edge, the exterior of our bespoke Cove Pavilions pay homage to the architectural style of the iconic and humble boat shed.
Maugean Suites
Named after the rare Maugean skate, found nowhere else on earth but Macquarie Harbour. Two bedrooms, a deep soaking bath with harbour views; this is pure waterfront bliss
Rainforest Suites
A fire inside, a cedar tub in the forest courtyard, man ferns black against the stars. After a day on the Gordon, there is nowhere better to thaw.
Marina Suite
Framed by water and sky, the Marina Suites embrace contemporary design, with expansive glazing and a private deck offering direct views across the marina and Macquarie Harbour.
Skyline Suite
Framed by treetops and glimpses of the harbour, the Skyline Suites deliver contemporary design and a tranquil, private connection to garden and water.
Storyteller’s Suite
A special treat for movie-buffs – or simply for those who’d like a bit of quality indoor time after exploring the West Coast wilderness – the Storyteller’s Suite offers a private cinema experience, complete with popcorn and choc-top ice creams.
Macquarie Suite
The Macquarie Suite is spacious and comfortable with a cosy lounge, bioethanol fireplace and a second sunny sitting nook, great for sipping wine at sunset.
Piner’s Suite
Centrally located opposite our intimate restaurant, this suite boasts a cosy bioethanol fireplace and a secluded, private entry courtyard with views to the marina and harbour.

Between Harbour and Rainforest
Days at Risby take their shape from the water. The harbour decides the morning; glass-still for the kayaks, or misted over for a long breakfast by the fire. The Gordon River departs from the wharf nearby; the rainforest begins just behind the suites. Evening ends fifty metres from your door, at a table above the boats.
Reserved for Those Who Stay
Deep in an abandoned mine shaft, a crib lunch by lanternlight. On the jetty, a table set as the harbour light fades. A scenic flight transfer over UNSECO wilderness. The West Coast, at its most intimate. Experiences are exclusive to Risby Cove guests.

Risby Cove sits on The Esplanade in Strahan, on Tasmania's West Coast. The drive from Hobart takes about four and a half hours, from Launceston about four, and from Devonport about three - and the road in is part of the stay, climbing through the Central Highlands, past Queenstown and down into rainforest. Once you have booked, we can send a curated drive journey for your route on request: the detours worth taking, where to stop, and how long to allow. Sample itineraries for stays are on our Experiences page, and scenic flight transfers can be arranged on request.

Check-in is from 2pm and check-out is by 10am. If you are arriving after 5pm, please let us know in advance and we will leave your suite ready and details with the restaurant team.

Risby Cove welcomes guests aged five and over. With twelve suites gathered along one quiet stretch of harbour, it is a considered choice - the loudest thing most nights is the water.

Every stay includes à la carte breakfast in Risby's, welcome drinks on arrival, an artisan cheese board and nightly turndown with chocolates.

The Piner's Suite is our designated accessible suite, with a private courtyard and level access throughout. Level access is also available in the Cove Pavilions, Rainforest Suites, Storyteller's Suite and Macquarie Suite.
